All 19,367 listed buildings in London, mapped
There are 19,367 listed-building entries across London, from houses and churches to bridges, monuments and telephone boxes. Almost 90% are Grade II, buildings of special architectural or historic interest; 606 are Grade I, reserved for buildings of exceptional interest. They are also very unevenly distributed. Westminster alone has 4,003 entries, more than the 18 boroughs with the fewest listed buildings combined.
Data and methodology:
The map uses Historic England’s National
Heritage List for England, downloaded on 4 September 2026. I filtered the data to
Greater London and mapped all 19,367 current listed-building entries, coloured by
statutory grade. These are list entries, not necessarily individual buildings: one entry
can cover several buildings or structures, while large sites can have several separate
listings. Boroughs are based on each entry’s location. For the map labels, I shortened
many of Historic England’s long official names while keeping enough information to
identify the place.
